Weekly Service

As of Fall 2012, Planet Longhorn proudly joined the fight against poverty by connecting with entrepreneurs in under-developed countries through Kiva, a non-profit organization that allows anyone to “lend” in increments of $25 to specific individuals in other countries. Each week at our general meetings Planet Longhorn members vote for the Kiva entrepreneur they hope to have our micro loan sent to that week.

Past Service

In Spring of 2013 we have chosen to support the American Cancer Society by participating in Colleges Against Cancer’s Relay for Life. We hope to raise at least $1000 to donate through our fundraising efforts.

In collaboration with Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, Planet Longhorn hosted its first major service event in Fall 2012. “Pulling for Patients” was a Tug-o’-war tournament in Austin’s Pease Park. All proceeds went to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
